Working with some of the most significant ensembles and figures in both classical and pop music, Alexandra Arrieche possesses an innate talent for moving seamlessly between musical genres. She commands a wide range of musical leadership skills, engaging a variety of audiences and communities with joy and resounding success. These qualities distinguish her as one of the most unique and exciting conductors of her generation.
The Brazilian Maestra currently serves as the Music Director of the Olympia Symphony Orchestra and the Henderson Symphony, as well as the Principal Conductor of the Antwerp Philharmonic in Belgium.
In 2015, Alexandra Arrieche was invited to conduct the European Emmy Award-winning Night of the Proms. Due to the overwhelming success of this engagement, she was appointed the principal conductor of the Antwerp Philharmonic and Night of the Proms (NOTP). Alexandra regularly collaborates with pop music icons such as Steve Lukather and Joseph Williams (Toto), Bryan Ferry, Joe Jackson, Seal, Suzanne Vega, Simple Minds, Pointer Sisters, Chaka Khan, Roger Hodgson, Peter Cetera, Alan Parsons, Anastacia, John Miles, among others.
In 2016, Alexandra was appointed Music Director of the Henderson Symphony, where she has since elevated the arts scene in the Vegas Valley with her dynamic, community-focused programming. Under her leadership, the HSO has become one of the few orchestras in the country to offer a free concert season alongside a robust array of community youth outreach programs. In 2015, Alexandra established a Conducting Studio in Brazil to address the lack of opportunities for conductors in her home country. This program has since expanded into a successful international initiative in collaboration with the HSO.
As a guest conductor, Alexandra Arrieche has appeared with some of the finest orchestras around the globe, including a series of recordings with the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic featuring Brazilian music arranged by Roeland Jacobs. The first album of the series, „Saudade,“ won the 2020 Edison Prize, one of Europe’s most prestigious music awards, for Best Jazz Album of the Year. Arrieche and Jacobs continue to collaborate, and their most recent album with the Antwerp Philharmonic, „The Seven Symphonies: A Classical Tribute to the Beach Boys’ Music,“ was shortlisted for a Grammy in 2022.
Alexandra has also collaborated with and championed new works by some of the finest composers of our generation, including Dobrinka Tabakova, Lera Auerbach, Mason Bates, Jennifer Higdon, Clarice Assad, Kevin Puts, Anna Clyne, John Adams, James MacMillan, Michael Daugherty, and John Corigliano, among others.
During the pandemic, she launched a podcast called “Beethoven Was a Rockstar,” where she explores the intersections between classical and pop music, discovering and breaking through the boundaries between them. The series has already garnered thousands of downloads from listeners around the world.
Alexandra Arrieche is also featured in „The Conductor,“ a documentary about her mentor, Marin Alsop. The documentary premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2021, with Alexandra conducting young female musicians from the New York Youth Symphony at the opening screening.
