Costa Rican conductor Pablo Zamora Mata has conducted orchestras throughout the United States and Latin America, including the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Nashville Symphony Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestras of Costa Rica and Argentina, and the University of São Paulo Symphony Orchestra. His recent work has included artistic planning, community engagement, contemporary music, and education, alongside his conducting engagements.

Pablo Zamora Mata previously served as Assistant Conductor of the Austin Symphony Orchestra, where he was involved in performances, artistic planning, and community engagement. He has also worked as a cover conductor for the National Symphony Orchestra of the United States.

Across the Americas

Zamora Mata’s conducting work has taken him to orchestras and musical institutions across North and South America. Alongside the standard orchestral repertoire, he collaborates with contemporary composers and interdisciplinary artists, developing programmes that explore different ways of presenting orchestral music and connecting it with wider artistic practices.

Working with Young Musicians

Education has been an important part of Pablo Zamora Mata’s work. He has mentored young musicians through the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra, Atlanta Music Project, and Costa Rica’s National Honor Orchestras within the National System of Music Education.

He has also worked with Carnegie Hall’s National Youth Orchestras, the Dudamel Foundation’s Encuentros Festival, the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s YOLA National Festival, the Carlos Miguel Prieto Fellowship at the OAcademy, and the Sphinx Connect Conference.

Working with young musicians has taken him into a wide range of educational and artistic environments and has become an important part of his work as a conductor.

Musical Formation

Pablo Zamora Mata has studied and worked with conductors and educators including Marianne Ploger, Catherine Larsen-Maguire, Molly Turner, Sarah Ioannides, Ligia Amadio, Marin Alsop, and Miguel Harth-Bedoya. His participation in conducting programmes and masterclasses has allowed him to work closely with leading conductors while developing his own approach to technique, interpretation, and communication.

Today, his work brings together orchestral conducting, contemporary music, and education, with a particular connection to the musical life of the Americas.
