Upcoming engagements

In the coming season, Adam Sedlický makes his subscription debut with the Hradec Králové Philharmonic and appears at the Allegretto Festival with the Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava. He continues his collaboration with the Slovak Sinfonietta and returns to the Slovak National Theatre. Further engagements include Verdi’s Nabucco at the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre in Ostrava and Liszt’s Requiem with the Slovak Philharmonic Choir.

Recent highlights

Recent highlights include his acclaimed debut at the State Opera in Banská Bystrica with Andrea Chénier, as well as a guest tour to the Bonn Theatre with the ballet company of the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre and the North Czech Philharmonic, performing Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker (2024).

Since his debut at the Slovak National Theatre in 2022, Adam has returned regularly with productions including Verdi’s Nabucco, Bizet’s Carmen, Suchoň’s Svätopluk, Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel, and Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake and The Nutcracker.

Opera and orchestral career

From 2017 to 2023, Adam Sedlický served as permanent conductor at the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre in Ostrava, where he led productions including Dvořák’s Rusalka, Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen, Puccini’s Tosca and Il trittico, Verdi’s La traviata, and Wagner’s Tannhäuser.

His collaboration with the theatre began in 2014, followed by an engagement with its operetta and musical ensemble in the 2015/16 season.

From 2020 to 2023, he was permanent conductor of the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra. Since 2022, he has served as permanent guest conductor of the Slovak Sinfonietta. Earlier posts include Chief Conductor of the Moravian-Silesian Sinfonietta (2012–2015) and the Žilina State Conservatory Student Orchestra (2015–2019).

Awards and choral work

Winner of the 3rd Prize at the Zoraqi Conducting Competition in Albania (2025), Adam Sedlický’s distinctions also include the Czech Republic’s Choirmaster-Junior Award (2018) and finalist recognition at the Romano Gandolfi International Competition for Choral Conductors in Parma (2019).

As a choral conductor, he has led the Academic Choir of the Technical University of Ostrava to international awards and has been a regular guest choirmaster with the Slovak Philharmonic Choir since 2020.

Education

Adam studied piano and conducting at the Žilina Conservatory and orchestral conducting at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava and the Academy of Music in Krakow. He attended masterclasses with Gabriel Chmura, Colin Metters, and Michalis Economou, conducting ensembles such as the Beethoven Academy Orchestra, Cardiff Sinfonietta, and Athens Philharmonia Orchestra.

In 2021, he received the Bayreuther Festspiele Scholarship and completed doctoral studies at the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica, where he is now Assistant Professor.
