Spanish conductor Irene Delgado-Jiménez was appointed Associate Fellow (2022-24) by the Taki Alsop Conducting Fellowship. Since then, she has regularly assisted Marin Alsop with the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra (RSO). Delgado-Jiménez also serves as Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Thalassa Orchestra in Spain.

Upcoming highlights include the opening concert of the Wien Modern Festival as collaborative conductor to Ingo Metzmacher, CD productions for SONY Classical with internet sensation Esther Abrami and the ORF orchestra, her German debut with the Rheinische Philharmonie, Koblenz, as well as subscription concerts with National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice, and the Tonkünstlerorchester in the Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein.

The 2023/24 season saw her return to the Palau de la Música for her first performance with the Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès, serving as Assistant and Cover Conductor for the Theater an der Wien and ORF-RSO’s production of Candide, her South African debut with the Johannesburg Philharmonic and KZN Philharmonic, and her debut with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Bilbao, among others. For the third consecutive year, she premiered a commissioned opera at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, conducting Ferran Cruixent’s ELIZA (2024).

In the 2022/23 season, Delgado-Jiménez assisted Marin Alsop with the ORF-RSO at the Wien Modern Festival and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at the Ravinia Festival (USA). Other engagements included productions with NOSPR in Poland, the Reno Philharmonic, and her debut at the Palau de la Música in Barcelona, where she revived Marianne von Martines‘ 1782 oratorio Isacco, figura del Redentore. Following her critically acclaimed debut at Barcelona’s Teatre del Liceu with Marc Migó’s opera The Fox Sisters (2022), Delgado-Jiménez returned to premiere Marian Márquez’s Filles del món (2023).

In the educational sphere, she has collaborated as a Lecturer for Musical Rehearsals in the Master of Opera program at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna (MUK) in 2022.

In 2021, Delgado-Jiménez made her debut at the Wiener Konzerthaus with the Tonkünstler Orchestra. Her operatic debut in Vienna followed in May 2021 with Stravinsky’s Mavra. That same year, she served as Assistant Conductor at the Neue Oper Wien for Wolfgang Rihm’s Proserpina. 

In 2020, she recorded de Falla’s El Amor Brujo with Anna Colom and the Orquestra Terres de Marca in Barcelona. Earlier, she made her Italian debut with the Catania Philharmonic and the Coro Lirico Siciliano. She also had the distinct honor of conducting the Opening Fanfare at the Vienna Ball of Sciences at Vienna City Hall in both 2019 and 2020. 

Between 2018 and 2020, Delgado-Jiménez served as Assistant Conductor for productions at the Wiener Kammeroper and the Vienna Radiokulturhaus. Her repertoire during this period included Bernstein’s Mass, Mozart’s La Finta Giardiniera, Beethoven’s Triple Concerto, and symphonies by Schumann and Mahler. 

In 2017, she was awarded a Special Commendation at the Graz Conducting Competition for her work with the Kammerphilharmonie Graz. Earlier in her career, she won the Piano Prize of Honor and the Soloist Competition at the Barcelona Conservatory in 2012, performing Beethoven’s Third Piano Concerto. She has participated in masterclasses with Marin Alsop, Douglas Bostock, Sian Edwards, Mark Heron, and Simon Carrington, among others. 

Delgado-Jiménez has conducted numerous orchestras, choirs, and ensembles in Barcelona. Notably, from 2016 to 2018, she served as Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Sant Cugat Sinfonietta, the Symphonic Band AMCV, and the Tornaveu Jazz Chamber Choir. 

Beyond the podium, Irene is deeply committed to enriching Spain’s cultural landscape. She has contributed to several music magazines and actively promotes classical music through various media platforms. Additionally, she leads the Thalassa Music Project, an organization dedicated to promoting classical music at a professional level in southern Spain.
