Lauded as “fantastic” by The Toronto Star and observed as demonstrating “masterful vocal control” by The Boston Musical Intelligencer, soprano Kristin Renee Young began her musical studies at age five. Equally at home in the worlds of opera, oratorio, recital, musical theater, and voiceover, Kristin has appeared at world-renowned venues, such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center’s Rose Theater.
Kristin 2023-24 engagements include Sophia in Tod Machover’s VALIS at MIT and Alceste in a reimagined version of Handel’s Admeto with Opera Essentia. In recent seasons, Kristin performed the role of Lucy in a revised, newly-orchestrated version of Scott Joplin’s Treemonisha, arranged by Jessie Montgomery and Jannina Norpoth; Zerbinetta in Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos with Barn Opera; Queen of the Night in a unique, film version of Mozart’s The Magic Flute with INSeries Opera; and covered the role of Amelia Alumond in Quamino’s Map (Wallen/Brevoort) with Chicago Opera Theater.
Other highlights include Sister Sophia (The Sound of Music) with Asolo Repertory Theater and Williams in the premiere of Stonewall by Iain Bell and Mark Campbell with New York City Opera, as well as Adina (L’elisir d’amore), Belinda (Dido and Aeneas), Cleopatra (Giulio Cesare), Constance (Dialogues of the Carmelites), Despina (Così fan tutte), Maria (West Side Story), Monica (The Medium), Mrs. Julian (Owen Wingrave), Nanetta (Falstaff), Norina (Don Pasquale), Pamina (The Magic Flute), Tytania (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), and Zerlina (Don Giovanni).
Kristin received The Marc and Eva Stern – Los Angeles Opera Fellowship at SongFest. She has also performed with American Lyric Theater, Beth Morrison Project, Center for Contemporary Arts, Chicago Opera Theater, Colby Symphony Orchestra, Corkscrew Theater Festival, Encompass New Opera, Gotham Chamber Opera, Harlem Opera Theater, International Brazilian Opera Company, Juventas New Music Ensemble, New Camerata Opera, Orchestra of Indian Hill, Philadelphia Sinfonia Players, and the Rites of Spring Festival.
Kristin has performed under the baton of international conductors, including Kalena Bovell, Neal Goren, Carolyn Kuan, and Lidiya Yankovskaya, and has.worked with directors, such as Josh Rhodes, Jay Scheib, and Jennifer Williams.
She received a master’s degree from Boston University and bachelor’s degree from Barnard College of Columbia University. Kristin resides in Brooklyn, NY, where she is also a certified yoga instructor.
