Born in Munich in 1968, Markus Huber has built a unique career in classical music. As a soloist with the celebrated Tölzer Boys’ Choir, he worked from an early age with iconic conductors such as Herbert von Karajan, James Levine, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, and Dennis Russell Davies.
He pursued his musical education at the renowned music academies in Munich and Vienna, where his mentors included Leopold Hager in conducting and Karl-Hermann Mrongovius in piano. These formative experiences laid the foundation for a career marked by versatility and excellence.
Huber began his professional journey in 1996 as a répétiteur with conducting duties at the Landestheater Detmold. A year later, he joined the Chemnitz Opera House, where he also served as Second Choir Director. In 1999, he was appointed Chief Conductor of the Collegium Instrumentale Chemnitz. From 2002 to 2007, he was Principal Guest Conductor of the Bulgarian Chamber Orchestra, and in 2003, he became Chief Conductor of the Leipzig Symphony Orchestra. Between 2008 and 2019, he served as General Music Director at Theater Pforzheim, earning widespread acclaim for his innovative programming and inspiring performances.
Since 2019, Huber has been Chief Conductor of the Thuringia Philharmonic Orchestra Gotha-Eisenach, and in 2020, he was named Principal Guest Conductor of the Kaunas City Symphony Orchestra.
Throughout his career, Huber has conducted over 150 prestigious orchestras worldwide, including the Philadelphia and San Francisco Symphony Orchestras, the ORF Symphony Orchestra, Saarländischer Rundfunk, Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz, and international ensembles in cities such as Tokyo, Singapore, and Kuala Lumpur. He has also captivated audiences with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, Munich Symphony Orchestra, Turku Philharmonic, and the Utah, Nashville, and Detroit Symphony Orchestras, among others.
In recent seasons he has appeared among others in Pilsen, Kaunas, Siegen, Herford, Karlsruhe, Konstanz, and Flensburg. He is also lead and hosted the grand Christmas gala The Sound of Christmas in major German cities, including Düsseldorf, Cologne, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, and Nuremberg, offering audiences unforgettable evenings of music and festive cheer.
