Violinist Andrej Bielow is worldwide sought-after as a soloist and chamber musician. He has performed with prestigious orchestras including the New Japan Philharmonic, Orchestre National de Radio France, NDR Radiophilharmonie, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Deutsches Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Amadeus Chamber Orchestra, International Players of Busan, and the Munich Chamber Orchestra. Bielow has collaborated with distinguished conductors such as Kurt Masur, Lahav Shani, Yan Pascal Tortelier, Gianandrea Noseda, and Miguel Gomez-Martinez.
Deeply dedicated to chamber music, Bielow regularly collaborates with like-minded musicians. He is a frequent guest at prestigious venues such as Wigmore Hall in London, Beethovenhaus Bonn, Palais des Beaux-Arts Brussels, and Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, as well as at major festivals including Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Wigmore Hall, Wissembourg Festival, Schubertiade Hohenems, and the Schleswig Holstein Music Festival. His chamber music partners include Severin von Eckardstein, Nicolas Alstaedt, Kit Armstrong, Markus Becker, Adrian Brendel, and Nikolaj Szeps-Znaider. At the Kronberg Academy, he has performed with Gidon Kremer, Yuri Bashmet, and the Beaux Arts Trio.
Born in Ukraine, Bielow began violin lessons at the age of five. His exceptional talent was quickly recognized, leading to Prof. Michael Kuzniezow to mentor him. After a brief period of instruction, Bielow began performing publicly at an early age. At 15, he moved to Germany, becoming a citizen in 2011.
He studied with Prof. Krzysztof Wegrzyn at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover, completing his concert exam in 2006. He further studied with Gerard Poulet at the Conservatoire National Supérieur-CNR Paris, and received guidance from Herman Krebbers, Ida Haendel, Ana Chumachenko, and Benjamin Schmid. Since 2011, Alfred Brendel has been a significant influence. Bielow is a laureate of international competitions including Long Thibaud Paris (2002), Joseph Joachim Hannover (2000), ARD Munich (1999), and Citta di Brescia (1999).
Andrej Bielow has released over 20 CDs with labels such as Berlin Classics, Hyperion, Naxos and Hännsler Classic. His trailblazing recording of the complete violin work by Croatian composer Dora Pejacevic was featured in the award-winning documentary “Dora.”
From 2005 to 2014, Bielow was the primarius of the renowned Szymanowski Quartet, while also serving as assistant to Prof. Wegrzyn in Hannover. Since 2013, he has been a visiting teacher at the Royal Academy of Music in London. From 2014 to 2018 he was a Professor of Violin at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, and since 2016, he is a Professor at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf. He regularly conducts masterclasses across Europe, the USA, and Asia, actively engaging in innovative and cross-border forms of classical music education.
A native Ukrainian, Bielow has always championed the exchange of Ukrainian and German musical cultures. He recorded the nine violin concertos of Ukrainian composer Miroslav Skoryk, one of which was dedicated to him, helping to introduce these works to a global audience.
