The Brazilian bass Matheus França received his musical education at the University of Brasília, where he stood out by completing his Bachelor’s Degree in Orchestral and Choral Conducting with excellence. During this period, he also studied voice under the guidance of the renowned Professor Dr. Irene Bentley.
Matheus França’s first foray into the world of opera took place at his university, where he participated in productions such as La Serva Padrona by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi and Il Barbiere di Siviglia by Gioacchino Rossini. Inspired by these experiences, he expanded his repertoire to include concert works. Among others, he has sung Vesperae solennes by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven’s Chorfantasie, and the Mozart and Verdi Requiems.
Throughout his formative years, he received encouragement and guidance from renowned conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Stojan Kuret, Dietmar Wiedemann, and Roberto Minczuk, among others.
In 2014, he joined the Lyrical Choir of the Municipal Theater of São Paulo, Brazil, marking at the same time the beginning of his solo career. Under the guidance and mentorship of prominent figures in the global opera scene, such as Kurt Rydl, Luiz-Ottavio Faria, and Marianne Cornetti, he experienced remarkable growth as a bass soloist, debuting as Zaccaria in Nabucco and later as Nourabad in Les Pêcheurs de Perles by Bizet.
Since then, he has successfully expanded his international career, beginning in Europe with the opera La Forza del Destino, in the role of Padre Guardiano, and continuing to interpret prominent roles such as Sarastro, Fafner, Hunding, King René, Basilio, Zaccaria, Grand Inquisitor, and others of singular importance in the bass repertoire.
