Chilean tenor Xavier Prado has quickly established himself as an exceptional singer, captivating audiences with his remarkable voice and earning numerous awards and international recognition.
Xavier Prado is an alumnus of the prestigious Accademia Rossiniana Alberto Zedda (2023) and won first prize at the 2024 Concorso Internazionale Piero Cappuccilli. In 2023, he was a finalist and grant recipient at the Loren L. Zachary Vocal Competition, a finalist at the Giulio Gari International Vocal Competition, and secured multiple honors at the Palm Springs Opera Guild Vocal Competition, including Second Prize, Third Prize (2022), and the Audience Choice Award (2022). Prado also was a finalist and the Audience Choice winner in the Pasadena Vocal Competition in 2023 and 2024, as well as the Mary Jacobs Singer of the Year Competition, where he earned the Robinson/Tyrrell Award in both years. Earlier in his career, he won the Beverly Hills National Auditions (2019-2020).
Xavier Prado’s performances have drawn widespread acclaim for his „stunning acting and vocals“ and his „vigorously well-posed voice.“ He made his film debut in 2018 in an American television miniseries and portrayed Ruodi in Guillaume Tell with Opera Southwest, a role broadcast across the United States. His career to date has been marked by leading roles in new works and world premieres, including Don Quixote in Dulcinea XL by Juan Colomer with the Los Angeles Grand Ensemble (2019) and the title role in Zorro by Hector Armienta with Opera Santa Barbara (2024).
As a Studio Artist with Sarasota Opera during the 2016-17 season, Xavier Prado performed in numerous concerts and covered lead roles such as Ernesto in Donizetti’s Don Pasquale and sang Le Premier Commissaire in Poulenc’s Les Dialogues des Carmélites. At Opera San Jose, he appeared in productions of Le Nozze di Figaro, Streetcar Named Desire, and L’Italiana in Algeri as Lindoro.
Prado’s diverse solo repertoire has led to collaborations with various opera companies and orchestras worldwide, including performances at the Rossini Opera Festival in Italy, Palm Springs Opera Guild, California Philharmonic, Lyric Opera of Orange County, Golden State Pops Orchestra, and many others. In 2020, he toured California with a recital series presented by the Consortium of Music Presenters of Southern California. His last public appearance before the pandemic was in March 2020, as the tenor soloist for Beethoven’s 9th Symphony at The Soraya Hall with the CSUN Symphony.
In 2021, Prado returned to the stage post-pandemic, singing Count Almaviva in Il Barbiere di Siviglia and in the title roles of Rimsky-Korsakov’s Kaschey the Deathless and Gounod’s Faust with the Huntington Beach Symphony. He has also portrayed Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor, Romeo in Romeo et Juliette, and Rodolfo in La Bohème with various companies. In 2023, he sang Zeffirino in Il Viaggio a Reims at the Rossini Opera Festival. His upcoming engagements include the world premiere of Again, and Again, and Again by Conrad Cummings with Opera Las Vegas, and a return as Zorro with Opera San Jose in 2025.
Xavier Prado has studied under the tutelage of the renowned Italian operatic bass Carlo Colombara, with additional mentorship from artists like Ernesto Palacio, Juan Diego Flórez, Victor DeRenzi, Shigemi Matsumoto, Kevin Miller, Gabriel Reoyo, Catherine Miller, Rubén Sánchez-Vieco, and many others.
