Michele Cerullo | pura musica

Michele Cerullo stands out as one of Italy’s most promising young tenors.

Born and raised in Naples, Michele Cerullo is deeply rooted in the city’s rich cultural heritage while at the same time representing a new generation of opera singers.

Always passionate about classical music, Michele began to develop his love for opera by listening to recordings of the great tenors of the past. He embarked on his musical journey at a very young age studying with his father, a renowned Neapolitan pianist.

The young tenor received his formal vocal and interpretative training with Luigi Giordano Orsini and subsequently pursued specialization courses under the guidance of mezzo-soprano Luciano d’Intino in Bologna. Currently mentored by the preeminent Italian bass Carlo Colombara and Roberto Moreschi, a close friend and the principal pianist of the Teatro San Carlo, Michele Cerullo continues to refine his art.

Since the age of 20, Michele has excelled in international voice competitions, consistently being amongst the finalists and earning recognition for his outstanding talent.

Since 2016, he has been performing as a soloist in concerts and opera festivals both nationally and internationally. The same year saw his operatic debut as Messaggero in Verdi’s Aida in a Franco Zeffirelli production conducted by Maestro Marco Boemi at the Teatro Sociale of Rovigo. He has repeatedly appeared in recitals at the Teatro San Carlo in his hometown Naples, accompanied by Roberto Moreschi.

Michele Cerullo made his debut as Rodolfo in Puccini’s La Bohème at a very young age at the Teatro Comunale in Ferrara, followed by role debuts at many Italian opera houses including the Teatro Goldoni in Livorno, Teatro Verdi in Pisa and the Teatro Sociale in Rovigo. In Salerno, he sang the role of Ismaele in Verdi’s Nabucco under the baton of Maestro Daniel Oren.

In 2019, Michele marked an important milestone with his debut at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples as Rodolfo in Giacomo Puccini’s La Bohème. He continues to captivate audiences with his versatile performances, including roles in Rigoletto, Un Ballo in Maschera, and Lucia di Lammermoor across Italian theaters, including the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari.

Michele Cerullo is a testament to the rich tradition of Italian tenors, and his unwavering commitment to excellence promises a bright future.
